Tasers Receiving Negative Media Attention

Dear Students

bstk-new3Police departments and law enforcement agencies around the globe are bracing themselves for the consequences of taser use and possible future taser-related incidents, based on report released from TASER International (NASDAQ: TASR) that officially urges for change in recommended guidelines.

For months, The Dean has taught the CollegeStock Community about the potential hazards and consequences of taser-use and misuse. But, just like last week and the week before that, these “incidents,” deaths and lawsuits seem to pile up against these weapon alternatives once thought to be less than lethal.

Although it’s puzzling for The Dean and people all over the world that it took several years and hundreds of deaths for the manufacturer of the device to officially issue new guidelines which carry warnings of “chest shots.” Remember, these taser devices shoot metal barbs that send 50,000 volts of electricity into their targets.

One alarming report surrounding a death of a man the hands of Queensland, Australia police revealed that the 39 year-old man was tased up to 28 times. In this particular case, the device was used excessively and, unfortunately, it’s certainly not the first instance of taser-use resulting in death.

In the United States where Taser International’s (NASDAQ: TASR) devices are used by many police department and law enforcement agencies, taser use has been the center of controversy, lawsuits and debate. Yesterday in New York, the Civil Liberties Union announced a lawsuit against the city of Saratoga Springs for their refusal to disclose public records concerning the police department’s use of the taser devices.

Reportedly, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) claims that the city denied its request of records, saying that the release of the records “would compromise the safety of police officers and the public.” The Dean’s confident that this leaves many curious about what this and other police departments many be hiding in their records of taser use.

Melanie Trimble, Director of the NYCLU’s Capital Region Chapter, was referenced in saying that “the public needs to know how officers are being trained to use these weapons and any guidelines concerning their use.” Trimble also suggests that “concealing that information doesn’t make us safer.”

A follow up report this morning suggests that tasers are known to cause carry liabilities and, as a result, “there are often problems within departments on overuse and abuse” of the devices.

Although The Dean can see no early conclusion to taser use, policies and their consequences, The Dean believes that all of these negative media attention could rally support for $BSTK’s line of products for further use in police and correctional departments, law enforcement and government agencies.

The Dean’s giving away ANY $BSTK PRODUCT to students who kick it up a notch and sign up for a FULL YEAR of TUITION at The Dean’s Honors Class. The deadline for The Dean’s $BSTK PRODUCT GIVEAWAY is December 31, 2009.
